Welcome to life behind my own facade, and behind the facade of the building I grew up in.
“Life behind the facade" (norsk: Livet bak fasaden) is my graduation project from Oslo Academy of the Arts (KHiO). The project is about Romsås and its identity, reflected in my own experiences growing up there. Groruddalen district and Romsås are often referred to as problematic with poor living conditions from the outside. These voices have contributed to the stigma of Oslo’s east side.
My claim that “Romsås is a nice place to grow up in” is examined through methods that provide insight and new perspectives on the place’s identity. These findings are collected in a booklet of 70 pages of research and reflections. As a result, I built a 1:20 model of the building I grew up in to visualize a colorful and unique story from the perspective of an insider.
By bringing Romsås to the viewer, my aim is to make the place more accessible and to share a story that has been untold and unheard, from my point of view.
