What happens when a chair no longer has a function, is it still a piece of furniture?
This project is about corresponding to and imitating a given object, in this case, the Tripp Trapp chair by Peter Opsvik. A functional and straightforward chair that is well known in many Norwegian homes, tracing back to the 70´s.
To imitate the chair I did research on Opsvik, and collected the findings in a booklet of 30 pages that guided me throughout the project. By looking at his ideas and objects, I noticed that function always comes first, and form second. To comment on this, I flipped the coin around and removed the function to force myself to work exclusively with the form.
Transforming his way of working, I used my own body to make new forms and ideas. "Positur" is a casting of my whole body, where the result does not disclose the function. The aim is to give the viewers the chance to choose whether they want to see it as a chair or a sculpture.
